Remember the hovering helicopters several days last summer? Have you noticed the warning signs at Little Bay beach that six people have drowned here?
Well action has been taken.
As of this year the Council has lifeguards at both Little Bay and Malabar Beaches from 8:30-5:00 over the summer months. Two of the lifeguards that patrol Little Bay are Matis (pictured) and Leo. Both are local and can’t believe their luck, to have a job doing what they love most – being at the beach.
Leo and Matis had to do ‘a lot of swimming’ but also several courses and certificates to become life guards. This is their first year and as well as working at Little Bay they patrol at the other beaches in the municipality.
While Matis will be going back to uni, Leo intends to make a career out of what he loves.
Say hello when you go for a swim. Let’s show them our appreciation.
